Breath is so important. But it is happening on an unconscious level, automatically. Most times we don’t put much thought into it… and we should. If you are breathing unintentionally you will be getting more tense instead of staying loose and relaxed in your body.
Let’s talk about conscious breath. Conscious breath is about being aware of your breath. How are you breathing?
Are you breathing in your belly?
Is your breath mostly in your chest?
Is your breath shallow, barely noticeable?
Or is your breath deep, even audible?
The way you breathe makes all the difference. Try a couple breathing techniques:
If you find that you are stressed, try exhaling first. Exhale completely until all air is expelled, then allow the inhale to happen naturally. Do this 2-3 times.
If you have been working too hard or not paying attention to how you are doing, try counting to reset. Inhale to a count of 4, hold your breath for a count of 4, then exhale for a count of 4. Do this for 1 minute.
If you want to relax your whole body, try this one. Start with a big inhale up the front of your body- from the feet all the way up to the head, exhale on the back side of the body from head to foot. Do this 3-4 times
Set times during the day to release tension and stress by resetting the rhythm of your breath. It is like having a clean slate to create the rest of your day from.
